People Advisor

Salary: circa £40,000
Reporting to: Chief of People
Contract: Maternity Cover – Fixed Term to June 2026
Location: Home based with occasional travel into London

Who you’d be working with…

The Advantage Travel Partnership is the UK’s pre-eminent business network representing travel agents and travel management companies.

Its members are all independently owned travel businesses who operate across 750 locations throughout the UK, representing a large proportion of the UK’s travel agency landscape. In addition, Advantage’s global network footprint continues to expand with representation in 83 countries across 96 network partners who work together in servicing corporate accounts.

Collectively, as a global network our members generate over £15.6 billion in global sales annually - with £7.6 billion from travel sales from its UK membership - and cater for many millions of holidaymakers and business travellers by assisting them with their travel arrangements.

What you would be doing…

You’ll work with and directly support our busy Chief of People and work together with a People Assistant. You’ll be responsible for providing an advisory and administrative service to the Advantage team (we are 103 people at full capacity), and actively involved in helping drive forward the people agenda through a variety of upcoming People projects.

Our CoP is both strategic and operational.  She really enjoys mentoring and coaching the development of those who report to her.  She favours a collaborative approach, ensuring the people she works with play a part in reaching the overall People objectives and understanding how these feed into the wider people strategy.

If you have an eye for detail, are on point with your administration and thrive in a fast-paced, non-red tape environment, then you’ll get on great.   Ideas for process improvement are welcome (in fact, expected!), as is an appetite to grow and improve.

To do this, you would…

Provide a top-class People BAU service to the team – for example.:

  • Respond to People queries and advise on interpretation of policy and procedure
  • Be comfortable with leading internal communications, and ideally have previously worked with Sharepoint.
  • Support line managers with all recruitment and selection activity
  • Own and support the People Assistant with the onboarding and induction process
  • Be a subject matter expert on our People Database, including pulling all sorts of reports and manipulating them to suit our needs. (We have implemented Employment Hero in early 2024)
  • Support the performance appraisal process
  • Manage and be the first point of contact with our suppliers on our learning and development programme.
  • Own and support all retention strategy principles and activities.
  • Administer our benefits.
  • Process and manage leavers with the support of the People Assistant.
  • Feed your activity and relevant information into the monthly payroll.

Get stuck into People projects with the CoP (the list is just getting started)

  • Overhaul T&Cs and HR documentation to ensure it’s up to date and available
  • Development of new company-wide apprenticeship and mentoring programmes
  • Employee engagement initiatives
  • Implement our new internal recruitment processes via Employment Hero
  • Initiate and implement ideas to upscale our Wellbeing programme (as part of our ESG)
  • Review of benefits package (and roll out of initiatives)
  • Strategic planning for potential outward facing People services to members

To be successful in this role, you would have experience of…

  • Working in a fast-paced, service-led People environment
  • Providing confident People guidance on policies, procedures and advising on best practice
  • Using Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams
  • Ideally have a knowledge of Canva – usage for internal communication.
  • …and happy with doing your own support work and administration

  • Good at spotting detail
  • A great communicator
  • Naturally enthusiastic, committed and keen to self-develop
  • Creative and yet analytical at the same time
  • Comfortable using social media for business and networking
  • Comfortable in a home-based role, and willing/able to travel to London when required.
  • Able to prove your right to work in the UK
