Diversity Travel joins premium FAM trip to Taiwan with China Airlines

Advantage member Jo Strange from Diversity Travel recently joined a premium fam trip to Taiwan with China Airlines, a key partner of the Advantage Air programme. The group had the opportunity to experience Business Class on the outbound, returning in Premium Economy, allowing travellers to experience both of their upgraded travel classes. Hosted in conjunction with the Taiwan Tourist Administration and stayed in the 5-star Regent Hotel in Taipei. Jo shares some highlights from her experience below…

I was lucky enough to be recently invited on a FAM trip to Taiwan, experiencing the best sights, sounds - and flavours - of the capital city Taipei, hosted by Mark Lowes from China Airlines and Ling Lai from Taiwan Tourism.

There was so much to see and do during the short trip and our first stop was at the bustling and atmospheric Raohe night market. Here we tried many different and delicious local street foods such as pork black pepper buns, blood sausage, sweet potato dumplings and bubble tea.

Later on, during our trip, we tried the popular, and best dumplings ever at the famous Din Tai Fung 101 restaurant and were treated to excellent typical Taiwanese food at the Michelin-starred Fu Jin Tree.

Another of our stops was at the technological I-ride Taipei, which takes you over the whole island virtually. From mountains to beaches, you feel the mist from the ocean and smell the cherry trees in spring. It was a fascinating experience – and all done in about 30 minutes!

On the second day, we were treated to a visit to the outside observation deck on the 101st floor of Taipei 101 (once the tallest building in the world). We were attached to the barrier by safety harness so we could walk around the outside of the building, for a stunning bird’s eye view of the city.

Also, on our fast-paced itinerary, was the old gold-mining town of Jiufen with its narrow alleyways and traditional tea shops which was like going back in time. A very atmospheric place and a real highlight of the visit.

We made a short trip on efficient public transport, MRT, which is the Taipei equivalent of the tube, but much cleaner and quieter.

I’ve enjoyed sharing some of the snacks I brought back with my family – everything from hot and spicy crispy seaweed to black bean biscuits, almond and fish crackers to pineapple cake. It’s been lovely to share some of my once-in-a-lifetime trip with those back home.

There are still places I would like to have visited. Maybe next time?

Thanks to our brilliant hosts for a wonderful trip.
